I'd get a huge paycheck for that one week's worth of work; enough to settle up with my housemates and still have enough left over to buy the phonograph, work clothes, horn-rimmed glasses, etc. I needed to embark upon my new, retro, working-class lifestyle.

Fortunately I hadn't been a complete idiot these last 3 years and I still had one "corporate casual" outfit I could wear. I got some of my co-workers at the bakery to cover for me, and caught a bus for the 2-hour ride to Cupertino.

This one week stint at Apple would be my final farewell to the Cyber-World.
